Time for announcement number 2 out of 3 on Thursday, July 17, 2014. For this announcement, we talk about another modder that quietly joined our group only a few weeks ago. You may know him for his professional 3D modeling for various games, or for his Nissan Primera project on the official Assetto Corsa forums. Patrik Marek has recently started the Porsche 911 (991) GT America and has made good progress with the use of very good references. As with the Oreca, it was only started around a week ago, so still very early, but already looking great! The 911 GTA competes in the slowest class of TUSCC, GT Daytona, or GTD. Competing with BMW Z4s, Ferrari GTs, and much more. - More to come. - Stereo has begun making the car "higher poly". -The edges are now smoother The lack of recent updates was due to our group doing a lot of private testing of various cars in multiplayer.
Wing mirrors done.
It's nice to be able to look at the cars ingame rather than in the 3D program in render mode. Not really sure what the circles are for, maybe to let a wrench get at the transmission's bolts. Except the transmission doesn't seem to stick out that far to the back... It's all part of the wing uprights though. There are a couple cross-pieces I haven't added yet, trying to find a better picture of one of them.
"The top & side views I'm using have a pretty major disagreement about the length of the back end, I'd guess top view is about 2-3 inches shorter. What it's amounting to is that the location of the slots the upper wing go through are really sketchy; I can't see them from the side and I don't trust the top. I might end up moving the intake and stuff all back a little bit." -Stereo
"Getting the rear fender smooth on the side is still a work in progress, roof looks ok. Couple more bits of paint-colored panels to add (lower spoiler, back bumper) and then windows done properly." -Stereo
It's been a few hours and already an update has emerged for the 'Vette. "surreptitious render change... blue wasn't showing detail well." -Stereo
Viper modeler, Stereo, has started on a second project; the Corvette DP.
"There is something to the shape that I haven't got right but it's going to be hard to work out until I cut the headlight into place." Regarding the Viper: "It's not done but a lot of the time spent for what's left is going to be under the hood (wheel wells, inside the side vent, between the hood and windshield) and I'd like to know the physical damage expectations - if the hood's able to move then it needs a bit more of a solid job. That and some model-specific edits (GT3-R has louvers over the front wheels, trunk is cut a little different, gas tank is different) is pretty much what's on the to-do list though. For first AC export I'm going to try to have the first LOD done (20k exterior + 5k interior, ish - looking like it'll be closer 22-25k with wheels) so there's something to look at while the physics guys get their hands dirty. Once it's ingame I can get a much better idea of what areas need most detail in the top LOD, though I have a pretty thorough plan to bevel every sharp edge until the polycount runs out." "I reshaped the wheels, and placed them with the right lanes. The car is enlarged a lot, so I fixed the model and it now looks much better" -speedpn
"Maybe a 16-sided wheel isn't enough even for the 5k poly interior; I'll see how it looks before doubling it though." -Stereo
